Travelling is more than just riding on the bus......

Lotus Temple
Taj Mahal
"People who don't travel cannot have a global view, all they see is what is in front of them. Those people cannot accept new things because all they know is where they live," Martin Yan quoted. And this is what I also believe to be true because as we travel around the different places we come to see different views of the universe and we also come across various kinds of people and their lifestyles and cultures. So let me share my experience of a 5 day trip to Delhi.

Though I was bit scared of getting car sickness, I reluctantly consented to join few of my colleagues on trip to Delhi after our exam because I didn't want to be the black sheep among the friends. As we all agreed with the decision, we started our journey on 22nd December to Delhi. Our main purpose of the journey was to visit Taj Mahal, Lotus temple and the Indian Gate. After our arrival in Delhi, we settled for a few days at Tibetan Colony renting a hotel. Our stay there at Tibetan Colony gave us a feeling of being in our own country Bhutan since Tibetan people are more or less similar to Bhutanese race and share similar cultures and religion.

But as we step out of that place and go around, we could see beggars and homeless people in a worse condition, worse than the animals I can say. Some beggars were hand-less, some were leg-less, some were cloth-less, so on and on that I can't explain in words. I even saw a few people sleeping on the ground and around them were waste materials, dogs, monkeys and all. Moreover, they were with only a very thin cloth piece in such a harsh winter season. Can we survive in such condition if we were one of them? This question has hit my mind as soon as I saw such pathetic people. Likewise I saw so many people in such animal-like situation and we can't even look at the faces of some people. What I realized upon seeing such people was that the Indian government has got lot to do to enhance the livelihood of their people.

Indian people are cunning, deceitful, lairs and pesky. These were what I learnt from my trip to Taj Mahal, Lotus Temple and Indian Gate. Shopkeepers on seeing our new faces increase the rates of  stuffs. Drivers had cheated us many times. We even had to quarrel with some drivers and shop keepers when we knew that they were deceiving us. And on our way to Tag Mahal, one man entered into our bus and proclaimed himself as our guide without prior information from the agent. He was speaking so many things in Hindi and we barely got what he was speaking. After sometime, he began to collect money from us. 10 rupees each from Indian passengers and 20 each from us as we were foreigners. Afterwards that man disappeared without our notice and another man replaced him. That new man also started to speak ceaselessly in Hindi. But luckily that man didn't collect money from us. So, I thought that is how they make money simply by lying and cheating people.

Although we had been cheated and lied for several times, we are satisfied and elated by reaching Taj Mahal which has been our dream for so long. Moreover, it was a new experience and new knowledge for me and for my friends too. We shared both success and failure, happiness and sorrow and smile and frowning. Above all, travelling is window to the outside world.

we are the architects of our own lives.....

We are the architects of our own lives. We need not hire neither a professional architect nor a proficient mason to build our lives. For, none of them could shape our lives the way we wanted but except ourselves. We, ourselves can mold our lives in any ways we want it to be like. Though there are some determinants of our lives but they play only minor roles in our lives. The real and powerful determinant is our own mind which is in deed a king of our physical bodies. So, it is entirely in our hands as how to lead our lives-in better way or in worse way.

Yes, there are also some important factors which I would say external factors like love and care, career counselling, compassion, elderly advice etc...which affect one's life and direct to the right track but if our mind is non-reactive to any of these determinants and if we be obstinate then we will remain at our normal position only. Therefore, everything has to be dealt with our mind. But I don't mean that we have to totally give ourselves to mind and let mind drive our lives. No. we should not entrust everything on mind because mind is good master as well as a bad master. If we let our mind rule ourselves then it might even put us in jail sometimes. Mind is so dangerous at times. So, it is awfully essential to curb our mind and make it to function in a meaningful way.

In our life time, some people will come as blessing and some as a curse. We may encounter people of various kinds. Some may aid us in climbing the ladder of success while some may pull us down from getting to the top ladder of success. But let it be. We should be the person we were before. Their curses and supports should not be the sole reasons for our accomplishments and failures because as I mentioned at the beginning we are the architects of our own lives. Nobody can bring a total change in our lives though others can bring some tweaks in our lives. Failure and success are like two sides of one coin. For they always go hand in hand. In deed, failure is a stepping stone toward success. The author,Jack Canfield has rightly quoted," Don't worry about failures, worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try".

" Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go,no one else", Les Brown(author) said. As rightly quoted by Mr. Les Brown, it solely depends on oneself on how to lead one's life. There is no any impossible thing in this world. Everything is possible if we really endeavour to do. If we think we can do, we can and if we think we can't then we can't. This is how possible turns into impossible when we don't even dare to give a try. If we fail without even trying it once, we will regret later and get disheartened but if we fail after try then we will not regret and have a sense of satisfaction as we had tried once. So I would like urge all my friends to be the good architect of one's life and build a life beautifully and meaningfully.

An ideal friend..

William Shakespeare has rightly said,"All that glitters are not gold" So are our friends. Friends are many but not all friends are ideal/true friends.  It will be a great fib if someone professes that he/she can live a life without friend/friends because friends are indispensable in our lives. we need friends in every journey of our lives. But as I have mentioned above, all friends are not ideal, we should be selective in choosing friends as friends are of many types. As our life  is an endless journey, we are bound to come across any kind of people. Sometimes we may encounter with good people and sometimes with bad people. But we can't be sure of their goodness and badness at the first meeting because people are like a mango fruit.

When I say people are like a mango fruit, I don't mean to say people are as sweet as the taste of a mango fruit. No!..I have just exemplified with a mango fruit because it is said that it is really difficult to know whether a mango is ripen or not. Some mangoes may seem to be ripen from exterior  but inside it won't be ripen. Some mangoes would be ripen from both outside and inside and some mangoes may seem to be unripened from outside but inside it would be ripen. Like wise some people may be good from outside but bad inside. Some may seem to be bad from outside but may be good inside and some may be bad from both outside and inside. So we can't judge the book by it's cover. We will only know by its content how the book is.

So  how can we define an ideal friend?, I know we all may have our own perceptions and concept of an ideal friend. But for me, an ideal friend is simply a true friend. An ideal friend is one who walks in when rest of the world walks out and stays with us in all times our our lives. A friend who does what we do and who nods when we nod is not an ideal friend. An ideal friend is the one who witnesses while we are doing and guides us and corrects us when we are doing wrong doings.

An ideal friend is the one who is honest, flexible, friendly, optimistic, reliable, loyal, generous and sincere. An ideal friend will not look into our family background, rank or status. He/she will simply love us for what we are and how we are without taking into considerations all those aforementioned factors. An ideal friend will also reveal all our goodness and badness without keeping it stifled. Hence, an ideal friend is a true mirror of our lives. He will tell us when our face is dingy. An ideal friend will never deprecate whatever we do, rather he will exalt our efforts and encourage us to keep doing. An ideal friend will never break our trust and betray us. But an ideal friend is hard to get in reality.

So lastly, but not the least, one true friend is worth a thousand relatives.

Corruption...

For so long I have been conceiving that HIV/AIDs is the most fatal disease though there were also some deadly diseases like TB, plague, chicken pox, measles etc, But fortunately with the rapid proliferation in medical science and scientific technologies, all these horrific diseases- some of them were able to be eradicated while some of them have become curable and avertable. But as I mature both physically and psychologically, I come to a realization that  those aforementioned diseases were

not really the deadly diseases since they are either curable or evitable.. There is one disease which, neither a doctor can treat, nor a saint can cure by his rituals. And it carries a chain of dreadful effect on the society, nation and the people.  Do you know what is it??? It is none than the"Corruption". I personally feel that we should be more afraid of this disease than aforementioned diseases.

So, what actually means Corruption??? I bet, different people will give different views on it if I am to go on asking person to person. But generally, 'Corruption is  defined as, the perversion of entrusted power for private gain'. What leads to corruption?? You may tend to ask yourself when you see the word" Corruption". Well, as I went through one article on this subject, I saw there are three  main factors or instigators. They are:
1. Bribery
2. Embezzlement
3.Favoritism.

Corruption prevails every where ranging from small society to a big nation, but mostly corruption is deemed to be prevailing among the civil servants, especially the politicians. It is not a simple thing. If it is left unchecked, a grand corruption can even make our people and the nation destitute in a long run. Corruption happens out of one's insatiable greed and desires and mishandling of one's own power and the resources.
Nobody is born corrupt but every one become corrupt. What makes a man corrupt??. The first and foremost thing is ' temptation'. This temptation will lead to corrupt mind. Now a man becomes a man with corrupt mind. So this corrupt mind will instigate a man to indulge in corrupt activities. Now a man becomes a corrupt man. So this corrupt man will definitely abet other close friends and conspire to involve in corruption. And gradually the number will go on increasing creating a corrupt society. This is how ' corruption' strews all over the community and nation as a whole.

Our country, Bhutan is considered to be one of the countries in the world with least corruption. But I don't think it is true because I can see corruption everywhere, at every level of position, be it small organisations or big organisations, be it prime minister or peon, everywhere is corruption and everyone is corrupt though there may be some who are not corrupt.. I don't see equality and justice in our country also.

we can't put an end to the corruption but we can jointly alleviate it to the minimum. So let's  join our hands together and confront this disease, so- called corruption by adopting various tactics. If every one leads a selfless life and be dedicated to what we do, then I think corruption will no longer remain with us. Let's wish for a corruption-free country and strive towards making our dreams come true. "Say No to Corruption"

Abortion and abandonment of babies by their mothers....

pray for this child.

Your parents and my parents are the best of the best in this world. For they have been loving us and caring us with their whole hearts since our entrance into this beautiful world besides having given us the most precious gift-a life!. Not only did they give us a full and happy life but also sacrificed everything for our goodness. Together, they have undergone the phases of weariness and exhaustion as to make our lives a better life. How fortunate we are to have such loving parents! We ought be grateful for our parents. All and above, we must be prideful for having both the parents.

But not every parent is as  loving and caring as mine and yours. Not every kid is as fortunate as you and I. For, there are thousand and thousands of babies who are being abandoned by their parents-some at very young age and some,as soon as they were born. And it is really disheartening to hear and know such heartless acts. There are so many cases of child abandonment and abortion worldwide. And it is more hurting to know that our younger ladies regardless of educated or uneducated are the ones who do these two atrocious practices. These are not only the serious crimes but also it is against our religions and human values.

We all have a conviction that life is so precious and is hard to get. But now in this contemporary world, life is becoming one of the worthless items where we can find in the garbage, drains, toilets, bags and all. And also birth places are gradually shifting from hospitals and homes to toilets and the streets. Moreover, it is also beyond our imagination, a mother murdering her own baby. Such things are sheer insanity and craziness. For instance, there was a school girl, who the policemen found out a dead body of a baby inside her carrying bag. She was found to have killed her new born baby. she was not the one who did such thing. There were so many like her where some has delivered the baby inside the toilet and flushed away, some has dumped into the drain and some has just left in an open area. There are so many such cases all over the globe.

I am sure you will be appalled to know some of the following such cases which are recorded in 2013 by the LifeSite News.

  • October 17 - A 17-year-old girl is stopped at a Victoria's Secret store in Manhatten for suspected shoplifting, and admits that in her bag she has the body of a baby that she gave birth to the day previous.
  • October 11 - A newborn baby is found, bleeding but alive, abandoned on the concrete in the back yard of a house in Queen's, New York. The baby survived.
  • September 19 - The body of a baby is found at a garbage dump in West Yorkshire, in the United Kingdom.
  • August 28 - A woman gives birth in a bar bathroom in Pennsylvania, stuffs the baby in the water tank of a toilet, and then returns to the bar to watch a fight on TV.
  • August 7 - The body of a baby is discovered at hospital rest room in Texas.
These are the only few out of many. According to the survey, it is found out that the main reasons or the causes of such practices are: teenage pregnancies and the poverty. While there could be also other reasons. So, it is not only the girls to be put at blames. We are also responsible for it and also it is our responsibilities to culminate and curb such inhuman practices. Together we can make this world a better place to live in and let's value the preciousness of one's life. May every child live a full life and may every mother or parents give their kids a boundless love and care.
Today as I went through BBC news as I do normally, I came across a news where a mother has dumped her new born baby into the drain and she ran away,in Sydney. So, I became quite emotional and thought of sharing my views thinking that it is worth- sharing.

As the examination approaches....

As the examination approaches, my mind doesn't rest in peace. Upon thinking of it,drives me insane not knowing what to study and which one to study. I may not be the merely one who is undergoing such distracting stresses. I am pretty sure almost all the students across the globe must be going through the same phase at this time of the year like me. I can't say about others but in case of me, I don't feel like studying when there are so many things piled up to study. Sometimes I feel like discarding those lengthy notes given by the lecturers and also it drags me into frustration and irritation. You know guys? when there is no much time but so much to be done within that short period of time, things get really messed up and we feel like going crazy. No matter how much we endeavor to swallow in the knowledge, it hardly makes difference because rather than learning and knowing better, last moment preparation just bemuse us and let forget even those already learnt ones. But some say that last moment preparation is helpful and makes a vast difference. May be this is because we people are gifted with variant capabilities and brilliance. But for me, it only drags me into confusion. So I never prepare at the eleventh hour.

Although we are accustomed to doing examination, fear, tensions and confusions  still dwell within us. We are totally incapable of getting rid of those three destructive and distracting elements. One stupid stuff we all do at the point of examination is that we work less and develop more devotion to god which we would hardly remember god in other times. But we all know that god helps those who help themselves. Whether we worship to god or not, god will be always with us, guiding us and defending us knowingly or unknowingly. God will play miracle on those who are diligent and determined people.
On the other hand, examination is really a killer of peoples' happiness and peacefulness especially of those students. I occasionally used to squander my spare time just wondering how many examinations do we have to do? I already have started to develop aversion to it and got fed-up with it. Though it is crucial part of my life, I despise it for depriving my human right to be ecstatic. I perceive that examination is  both the punishment and gateway to the happiness and success. Punishment, as it tortures us while preparing for it, and gateway to happiness, as we get a good job thereby we get to live a happy life if we can get through examinations.

So, our lives are full of examinations and we have  to confront it whether we like it or not, or whether we are capable or incapable. Examination is however one of the most essential ingredients of our lives...Good luck to all my buddies worldwide.

letter to my parents..

My dear parents....

luv u mummy
This is the very first time I am writing to you two. And I am terribly sorry for not being able to keep in constant touch with you though I missed you every moment of my life. Please pardon me for that. I know how much you two have yearned to know how I am doing here afar by miles and miles. You two must have been worrying all the time when there is no any message from me,your son for a long time.To your great relief and easiness, I tell you that I am so well and everything is going well with me by your prayers and by the god's grace. No worries my affectionate parents!.

Whenever I go around and see some people working tirelessly in the scorching sun drenched with perspiration, my mind gets preoccupied by the imagination of two of you going through the same weariness and exhaustion like them. Though it aches my heart and damps my mind, all I can do is stay in lost. Sometimes I hate myself for being burdensome and troublesome for you two. So sorry my adorable parents for my being the reason for your fast ageing and frailness.

I know how much you two have struggled in bringing us upto this stage and I shall be always indebted to two of you though I may not be able to repay the things you have done for me- your boundless love and care, your sacrifices, your right guidance and for all the things I can't even make a list of. I owe you so much my parents!..Every single word of your inspiring advice is always in my mind highly venerated and earnestly adopted in every journey of my life. I never deceive others, I never take away other's properties, I never indulge in atrocious actions and I always try to be a good human being as I have been advised by you two, my parents. Thank you for directing me to the right direction and making me a good human being.

I neither feel upset nor do I regret for having born under such  parents like you two who are illiterate and  not -so -affluent like others because all I want is love and care and good guidance, and I have got enough of all these from you two and still I am getting all your love and care though I myself is old enough to stand on my own feet. I won't pledge to fulfill any of your aspirations or desires because I know promises can be broken untouched and it will cause an incurable wound inside. But I can swear one thing for you two. I swear that I will strive towards accomplishing your aspirations and expectations that you have from me.Hereby I enclose my chit with the words, always be good and ecstatic and stay out of stress. May god almighty shields my lovely parents from all sorts of setbacks and keep them always blissful till I can replace you.

Your son,
Ugyen.

An eternal happiness..

Whenever we feel happy it is our happiness.  Generally speaking, everybody feels happy when we get mental satisfaction at what we have done and when we have met our goals and desires. Moreover, we feel happy when our lives go well in a way we expected. But from my own point of view, I think that happiness differs from person to person. I also personally conceive that there must be some reasons for us to be happy. without any reason then I think happiness is out of question.

So happiness comes with reasons. What could  a happiness mean for lovers? Obviously, happiness for them would be spending their time together-talking, kissing, dining, cuddling and never wanting to go off one another. And for our parents, happiness could be when we the children do good deeds and excel in studies and get a good job. I am pretty sure that all our parents' happiness and sorrow entirely depend on us, the children. So we are the reasons for our parents' happiness as well as grief.
likewise, for girls, shopping and receiving calls and gifts from their boy friends could be their happiness and for boys, staring at the stunning and exquisite laddies and of-course going out for date with their girl friends could be their happiness apart from other reasons.

But the happiness we obtain from all these things is a short term happiness. It won't last long. It will be gone just a moment later. The great world's spiritual leader His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama says that the happiness we get from others or from external environments is just a sensorial happiness and that we must go for eternal happiness. Here, you may think that only the Buddha can achieve this. But no.. we all have the potentials and ways to achieve eternal happiness. We needn't be a Buddha, saint, monk or nun..It is impossible for every one to be any of them. We can be what we are and achieve this lifetime blissfulness through the practice of noble deeds. Be kind to all the sentient beings, never harm others, help the needy, be affectionate and compassionate, avoid deceptions and fibs, be friendly to all and avoid discrimination, don't be arrogant and egocentric...if we can follow all these practices in our lives then we are bound to accomplish eternal happiness and mental satisfaction.
For instance, suppose you have deceived a person and took away all his money. You will get both enjoyment and happiness till that money gets exhausted. And after that you won't get mind peace and you have to be always in worries and tensions. Even if you can escape from that but you will be always in guiltiness till you expire. On the contrary, lets say you are a kind and helping person. You will be loved by all and there will be many friends to you. So you will be happy forever and when you die you will die in peace and with satisfactions.  So the choice is mine, yours and ours whether to opt for a short term happiness or eternal happiness.
Have a nice time reading and pardon me for the mistakes If I have made. I will be glad and grateful if you all could find my mistakes and correct me...

                                           Thank you......

life is not as easy as we think....

Nobody's life is easy and it will never be. Even the Buddha's life was tough and tiring. Nothing happens by miracle. The wish- fulfilling tree(pag-sam jen-shing) is no longer in the world. It has become a legend now. We can't just bum around anticipating for something miracle to happen in our lives. We always trust in god and believe that god will do everything for us. But we never realize that god helps those who help themselves. If we long to have what others have and if we want to accomplish what others have accomplished, then we have to do on our on. We have to start climbing up the ladder of success. We have to be determined, optimistic, diligent and enthusiastic as to achieve our dreams and desires.  Food will never come to us when we are famished. We have to go for it. Likewise, success will never be ours if we just keep watching others doing great things and succeeding satisfyingly and keep praying for god to play miracle on us.

Thinking of being a parasite will be the worst thing and disgraceful firstly on ourselves, secondly on our families and relatives and then on the community and the nation. Although we have to rely on our families and friends in times of need for quite sometimes, we can't be dependent on them till the end. We have to make our own livings and it entirely depends on ourselves how we are going to live our lives. No one can remold the way of our lives except by ourselves. So never take life easy. Try to make something out of our lives. Do whatever is good and our lives will be good naturally. Poverty waits at the gates of idleness. So never be a lazy bum. Always try to do something meaningful.

There are some people who take their lives so easy. They stay bother-less and carefree. They tend to forget the preciousness of life. But it is certain that they will realize their own mistakes. That time it will be too late to go  back to those gone away days to start meaningful life and it is impossible either. All they can do is stay in compunction and the words like 'I should have done', If I would have done' will keep their minds preoccupied and even make them shed tears. So, do what we can do and prepare for the better life while we are both mentally and physically sound instead of staying idle and dull. Don't just go on dreaming so many things without doing anything. Building castle in the air is of no use. It is merely a wastage of time.

Don't just wait things to happen. Instead, make things happen for us. Nobody is incapable of doing things. All are equally capable of doing anything. But the thing is everyone doesn't work equally. That's why we are not equally successful. Nonetheless, keep doing things and success and luck will automatically come our way. God is always there to exalt our doings and reward accordingly.
Slumber when it is time to sleep, eat when it is time to eat and play when it is time to play. Whatever we do, we should do according to the timing. If we are punctual, everything will go smoothly.
So always work hard and never take life easy. Life is neither a bed of roses nor a  child's play. nothing will happen magically.

Accept responsibility for your life. Know that it is you who will get you where you want to go, no one else.” – Les Brown

Diwali celebration in India

I got distracted from doing my tasks by the sounds of people hooting, by the blasting of musics to the peak volume, by the bursting sound of firecrackers etc..My mind was entirely disturbed and my mood of doing chores got unpleasantly restless by the noisy ambiance and could not do anything. Knowing that it would be just a sort of self-punishment by doing things in such a restless mood, I resolved to going out for a short stroll with my friends. As if anticipated, my two chums both named karma were kind enough to consent to my suggestion. In other words they two are acquiescent and gullible friends I have.

Without much preparation on ourselves, we hurried out of the room just taking some amount of buck with us. As soon as we came out of the room, we felt slightly different from the other days and also we could see the atmosphere was not the same as before. Every household, every shop, and every street was brightly illuminated by the varying colors of lights and amazingly decorated. Besides we could also hear a loud sounds of something bursting from every direction. That very bomb-blast-like sound led me to the world of imagination where I imagined myself at the war place. From that I realized that those people who are dwelling at war places must be undoubtedly suffering from noise pollution.

Though the Diwali festival was quite irritating and resenting for non-celebrators, it seemed that it was one of the most important festivals for the Indians. We could see them celebrating in their own ways with much value and enthusiasm. I could also see those shopkeepers at the peak of blissfulness from which I drew conclusion that it must be one of the profitable days for them as they receive a number of customers and we had to even stay in line as if we were going to receive blessings from the great saint. We could also see some smiles on their faces when we wished them simply a 'happy diwali..Likewise there seem to have so many festivals in India too like we have in our country Bhutan.

So, I thought I had been lucky enough to have received  an opportunity to study abroad as I come to learn many new things and get myself exposed to outside world. I came to understand the cultures and lifestyles of other people rather than our own country land. So, I feel that it is essential to move out of one's abode and explore the other world for better knowledge, for better experience and for better ideas etc.....With this, On behalf of all non-celebrators and on my on behalf, I sincerely wish our Indian families' A very Happy Diwali'.

                                        Thank you.

Fib for good....

I cannot claim that I am not a liar or I never lie. I cannot either say he/she is a liar. As far as I know everyone of us are all liars. Even the eminent persons also lie occasionally. But there are varieties of fibs and fibbers. Some lies are good, some are awful. Some are helpful while other lies are destructive and deceptive.  Some people fib to escape from the bitter situations and also to deceive others while some lie as to bring some positive changes in the minds and behavior of others. Likewise people lie in their own ways.

It is also said that it is a big sin to tell lies especially to our parents and teachers. So, thinking of it, makes me fearful and keeps me in the state of hesitation because I never tell my parents the truth. Not telling the truth is also a
lie. So, I am a good liar in deed. My parents used to ask me, " Are you in sound health?'," Are you studying hard?', " Is everything going fine with you down there?' so on and so forth. But I always used to say them that I am good and studying well and that everything is going as expected though in reality I barely study and face some problems. Just recently my mummy and one of my brothers were asking about my result and I told them it was good though I am failed in one subject. I didn't share with them of my failure deliberately. But it doesn't mean that I was scared of getting scolded by them or getting beaten up by them. I am pretty sure my parents would never do such thing to me.

Well, you may think that I am a bad son to my parents. But I can argue that I am not. Whatever lies I tell my parents I tell with the good intentions. I just don't want to perturb them unnecessarily. I don't want to let them down. I don't want them to have worries over me. I want them to be happy always. That's why I never tell the truth to my parents. Had I told them that I had failed in one subject then surely they would have undergone great depression and started worrying about me because I had been doing good in studies since my schooling. Moreover, I am their white-hope and if I can't reach up-to their expectation then it would give them an unbearable pain. So, I don't want my parents to suffer because of me. That is why I always keep on concealing the truth from my parents and relatives. So, I think that lying with good intention will be not much sinful but fibbing for bad purposes will be a great sinful.

sometimes try to learn more than what we know....

I wanted to ask the cost of things which I wanted to purchase. I wanted to ask if there are stuffs available of my like. I wanted to know what they were talking about. But I was left like an oaf among the strangers. I could not express what I had to express out.It even drag me back to infancy when I had to pinpoint at the things like small kids do at whatever things their eyes come across. I even felt insulted and embarrassed as well when I saw some people mocking at us. But later I realized that it was a lesson for me-the lesson that I should learn and should have learned other languages other than our own language.

Well, one day, I accompanied by my friend karma, went out to do some shopping at nearby street shops here in India. We had shopped around for almost an hour and finally my sight was attracted by one of the beautiful shirts. It was  hung quite a high beyond my reach. So we dashed towards that shop to buy that shirt. If it was within my reach I could have taken it from its place but since it was beyond my reach I had to ask the shopkeeper to take it out. But I didn't know the name of colors in their language and like a small kid I simply pinpointed at the shirt. Since the shirt which I liked was at the second row, the shopkeeper didn't see and to explain him further, I didn't know Hindi. So I was left with no other alternatives than to leave my lovely shirt and headed miserably to other shops. As we move out of that shop I  heard few of the sale-boys murmuring something but I didn't understand what they were uttering. It just kept me in the thought of what they could have talked about us- good or bad. I just said 'let it be to myself' to relieve myself.

So, all I can say from my own experience is that it is extremely vital to learn other languages apart from our own languages. Life seems incomplete and tough without having good knowledge of other languages. It is really difficult to cope up with the people from various cultural and linguistic backgrounds. We can be easily fooled, easily deceived  if we don't know their languages and just vice versa. We would also feel dominated. Like, sticking to one specific diet deteriorates our health, sticking to one's own language makes our life dull and meaningless. It jeopardizes the beauty of our life.

I often feel that knowing different languages is the most indispensable thing and treasure of our life. Without good knowledge of other languages, we are just like deaf and dumb. We would be always in troubles. We can't accomplish our desires and wishes. So I urge you to learn few other languages. Those who have been so dedicated to one's own language and didn't bother to learn other languages like me, please commence learning few other languages with zeal and zest. It will make a big difference in your life. We may have to deal with the people from different sections of the world at any time. So we have to be in a position to deal with them and the only way we can do is by learning few other languages.  We are never too old to learn.....

                                  Thank you....

we ought to be a real human being.....

As far as I know, there are merely two main characteristics that distinguish human beings from animals though we all are sentient beings from the religious perspectives. Body structures and thinking power are the two things of distinction between humans and animals. Humans have straight body structures albeit there are a very few exceptional cases and animals have crooked body structures. While humans have high thinking power, animals have a very least or low thinking power. This is asper my knowledge but I am sure, you all may have different perceptions on it.
This is one of the women who was died in the festival stampede recently

So there is no point of saying shameless or disloyal when we see an ox climbing onto his mother or sisters and doing shameful things because they lack thinking power and they don't have sense of embarrassment. But it would be a bitter embarrassment and insult on our part when a grandfather rapes his granddaughters, when an uncle rapes his niece, when a brother rapes his sister and when a group of boys rape a girl. Actually these awful things are expected from animals but it is quite depressing to know that humans are taking the place of animals especially in today's world.

When animals kill and take each other's fleshes and bloods, don't view them cruel or devilish, they are not. It is just their way of living. But when a man takes a life of another man, when a gang of boys thrash a boy to the death, when a man is roped and thrown into a river and over the cliff and when humans slaughter the animals for commercial purposes and own consumption, they can be called a true devils, a human devils indeed. We are bestowed with the  thinking power by the gods but we fail to make use of it. Humans are becoming more aggressive than the animals, greedier than the animals and cruel than the animals. Sometimes I wish if a god could bestow thinking power to the animals instead of human beings so that human beings would look upon them as an example.

Sometimes I wonder what could be the wrong with today's people. But it is obvious that something is missing from us. At times we are becoming oblivious of what we are doing. Sometimes I feel like there is need to remind our people the basic functions of five senses because it seems that people are forgetting the functions of not only the five senses but also of the other parts of body. Mouth is for eating and talking, not for hurting others or biting others. Nose is for breathing, not for sniffling drugs like marijuana. ears are for listening good things, not for listening to rumors or gossips. Eyes are for seeing and looking what lies ahead and behind us, not for looking at others' behaviors. Hands are for doing works, not for stealing others' properties and stabbing others. Legs are for walking not for stamping onto the other's bodies or like that. So it is quite sad to hear that a good number of people have been killed in the stampede during durresa festival in India. This evidently indicates how negligent people are, about other's well-beings. It is not only in Indian nation where such incidents are happening, I could hear n see the news on such cases happening in other parts of the universe also. Even in our small country like Bhutan I heard the news on the death of the people in the stampede during melam-chen mo.

Only animals will stamp because they don't bother to look what is there in front of them or what is there behind them. Whereas we as a human being ought to be far more better than animals. We should be more conscious and careful. I feel bad inside and at the same time drag me to hesitation when I make comparison between humans and animals. But the very facts of human beings prompt me to do so. And I apologize you all if I am going against the values of human beings. It doesn't mean that I don't venerate human beings. I do if there are something respectable values within the human beings.

                                   Thanks....

Divorce cases in Bhutan...

It was during my stay at Thimphu with my sister that one summer day while I was staying outside in the cool breeze to chill down the hotness of the summer, my sight was caught by the distressing scene, I should say. I saw a little girl whom I assumed to be of around seven years old holding firmly onto the body of a man in his forties and sobbing bitterly. I wondered why that little girl must be crying because as far as I know, that man didn't thrash her or scold her. I also heard that little lass uttering something but I didn't hear her words vividly. Thereafter, my mind could not let me stay in peace. I was extremely curious to know the reason behind that little gal's cry. It was indeed my foolishness to ask my sister for the reason as if she knows everything but my foolishness wasn't foolishness anymore when she gave me the reason. She explained that her parents got divorced and that man was her father. Upon hearing this, I became so emotional by seeing a little girl suffering because of family break -down. Likewise I have seen so many children under- going agony and depression due to family break -down.

So it is quite distressing to know our country, Bhutan, becoming a hub of divorce cases despite being a Buddhist country where we believe in fidelity and the cause and effect.( Tha-dham tse and lhay judrey).  Divorce cases are one of the most prevalent cases in our country, and  I am sure that more than 50% percent of the cases in the courts across the nation would be on divorce cases. Sometimes I am of view that marriage is for life time isn't holding the truth. Instead marriage is like use-and-throw game. This is what I feel inside. As it is said" when two elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers" In a same way, when the parents get divorced, it is the children who suffer in between. I feel that it is as good as calling them orphans without complete family.

There are many school drop outs, there are many drug-addicts, there are many who commit suicide and there are many who are hooligans. And if we ask them why they are like that? and why they are resorting to such inhuman activities??? we will find that one of the reasons would be a family problem albeit there would be some exceptional cases. Family break-down not only keeps their siblings under depression, it also hampers the performance of the kids. It spoils their mood to study hard. I also feel that it is an awful example in the societies. We are directing our young generations to the wrong way.

Despite knowing the divorce case becoming one of the top issues, our media fail to create awareness to the common public. Instead of covering personal stories like land cases, misunderstandings among parties and all, it would be helpful and educating if they could write stories on family- break down so that it will at-least bring some changes on the concerned parents. If they are made aware of its negative consequences then I think it will induce their minds and think for the good of their children, So if each one of us can educate and guide our parents then the divorce cases in our country will be curtailed to the minimum..Lets prevent divorce by educating our parents and live a harmonious life with a complete family.

We are more than what we are..

We are not just a single human entity,
We are a part of our families.
We are not just a part of our families,
We are a part of our communities.
We are not only a part of a community,
We are a part of our districts.
We are not just a part of our districts,
We are a part of our nation.
We are not only a part of our nation,
We are a part of our mother Earth.
                     We are not just producers,
                      We are also consumers.
We are not only creators of things,
                         We are also the destroyers.
We are not just a friend to others,
                          We are also their enemies.
In the eyes of gods we are animals,
But in the eyes of animals we are gods.
In the eyes of other people, we may seem just a single person,
But to the world, we are everything.
So whatever we do, there will always be some impact on the society, nation and the world being a part of them. If we shake one of the branches of a tree then the whole thing will move. Likewise we being a part of our families, societies, nation and the world, the kind of thing we do will affect them accordingly. So let us be a good human individual as to make our world a better place to live in and make our world no different from paradise.

Story of a butterfly.

Story narration had once been our most popular and refreshing entertainment in our primitive societies which were devoid of modern facilities. On the other hand, story narration had also served as sleeping tablet for us. I still remember our siblings fighting over the place near to our grandpa to listen stories from him. Our grandpa would never deny our request and he would be narrating the stories one after another until he finds us all asleep. I also remember, going out to sleep with brother Sherab because he would have a collection of hilarious stories which would make me laugh to the tears and would also make me stomach ache owing to incessant laughing. But now with the advent of modern infrastructure like TV, Radio, computers, phones etc...our traditional customs and cultures are gradually diminishing like a fading color. Nowadays we can see almost all the people regardless of sex and age, watching TV, listening to musics and playing games in the computer. So I sometimes wonder that can there be a single person who is keen interested in listening to a story?? I have a big doubt on it. We can't let our valuable cultures and customs disappear just that way. It is our responsibilities to preserve. So, I as one of the responsible citizens of our nation, let me share a short story to rejuvenate our valuable customs and also to
make you all realize the changes we have gone through. Here it begins......

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to squeeze its body through the tiny hole. Then it stopped, as if it couldn’t go further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bits of cocoon. The butterfly emerged easily but it had a swollen body and shriveled wings.
The man continued to watch it,expecting that any minute the wings would enlarge and expand enough to support the body,Neither happened!
In fact the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around. It was never able to fly.
What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand:
The restricting cocoon and the struggle required by the butterfly to get through the opening
was a way of forcing the fluid from the body into the wings so that it would be ready for flight once that was achieved. Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives.
Going through life with no obstacles would cripple us.We will not be as strong as we could have been
and we would never fly.

Hope you all have enjoyed the story....

Loss of a pen can be a cause of the death.....

It may sound funny and unbelievable as well because til-date nobody might have heard the news about the death of a person due to loss of a pen.Well, you are right. I even didn't see or hear any news on it. But if we really analyze and think logically then loss of a pen can be an ultimate cause of the death. You must be wondering how it can be possible. So just go through the following lines and you will come to know how it causes the death.

Lost your pen= no pen
No pen=No notes
No notes= No study
No study= Fail
Fail= No diploma
 No diploma= No work
No work=No money
No money= No food
No food= Skinny
Skinny= Ugly
Ugly= No love
No love= No marriage
No marriage= No children
No children= Alone
Alone= Depression
Depression= Sickness
Sickness= Death.

Lesson: Don't lose your pen. you will die..

So don't think that accidents, diseases, drugs and alcohol intoxication are the only causes of the death. Even losing your things can be one of the causes. It sounds funny..right???  I know you all would pick up a debate with me on this. But I didn't write it to bring debate among us. I just wrote it for fun. So enjoy reading it.....Have fun!!!!!!!!!!

Funny things in the examination hall

It was during examination, I went to do my exam, well organized myself but my mind seemed blank. As soon as I entered the exam hall, a sheet of paper was handed over to me by one of the invigilators. Definitely it was an answer sheet and on its first page there were some blanks to be filled up. Registration number, course name, course code and the date are the things I was supposed to fill those blanks with. Then I started filling up those blanks. I knew my registration number and the date. But as I went on filling up the blanks I got struck where I was to write course name and the course code. I could remember the course code vaguely but I had a big doubt on it. So I have left it unfilled.  I didn't know the name of the course which I am supposed to know actually. But the most luckiest thing was that there was no space for filling up with the name of a subject teacher. If it had come then I would have elapsed almost entire time thinking the name of the subject teacher because I don't know the name of any of my professors. I only know by their faces.

So, I turned back where one of my friends was sitting behind me and asked him the course name. But what I got back from him was a broad smile. From his smile I knew he was also in the sixes and sevens like me. After sometime,he says that the course name will be there on the question paper. So we waited till the distribution of the question paper to fill up the remaining blanks. It would be a great shameful on my part if I were the only one who is remiss to the extent of not knowing the name of the subject that I have studied. There were few students of my kind and it was sort of a relief for me because I wasn't the only negligent person in this universe.

The boy sitting beside me was more pathetic than me. He has got struck with the first blank itself where he was supposed to write the date. I saw him looking at my paper. I wondered why he was looking at my paper as if he is going to copy from me though our papers are different. But it wasn't the reason behind. He was trying to see the date. So, I smilingly told him the date. One of his doubt has been cleared by me. But that wasn't the only doubt he was having. Like me, he was asking his adjacent friends for the course name and the course code. To his dismay, the response he received from his buddies was" Mu je be pata nai" which in our language means' I also don't know'. Likewise I could hear from every corner of the room asking the same thing for one another. I felt funny inside and at the same time made me realize what kind of people we are. Not knowing what exam we were going to write on is akin to walking through a path having no idea of where it leads without proper destination. So, what you all can say about us??? please give me a word by which such people like us can be called or described. Take it as a favor to me. I know there will be a specific word but I could not find it. Everyone....don't back off to give me an answer...I will be waiting for your response..

                           Thank you........

My battle against the death......

It stills wets my eyes and drag me to misery when I reminisce over the incident that had happened in 2006, when I was only class six.  It was indeed a bitter part of my life which I had never expected. You all might be wondering what could have happened to me and also some of you might be eager to know the incident. I would rather call that incident" My battle against the death"

When I was in class six at Shingkhar Primary School, I fell seriously ill beyond my tolerance. I had had a very tough time undergoing the serious illness. I thought my life was coming to a full stop because the pain was unendurable for me. Moreover, I could see my condition  worsening day by day and hope of my recovery was at the least. Though I was not in total  consciousness because of the pain, I could hear my family and relatives weeping around me. At the most I could hear the crying of my mom. Hearing them crying, tears welled down my cheeks naturally out of emotion. But I was too frail to utter them all a single consoling word. I just kept sobbing and praying for my lords to save my life.

Not only could I hear the noises of those people who had come to see me but also the sounds of religious instruments. I could see a few laymen performing rituals sitting around me. Seeing them saying prayers for my recovery, a little bit of hope of recovery had developed within me as I thought that the gods would hear their prayers and my prayers and save me from leaving the world. My family and villagers had done every possible thing to save my life. Even my teachers and few of my mates had visited me and told me that my school family had also conducted long prayers upon hearing that I was on the journey to death. Hearing those honey words made me tearful thinking how loving and caring are my mates and teachers! So I thought I was both fortunate and unfortunate person. Fortunate to have affectionate family, helping villagers and loving teachers and mates. But unfortunate for having fallen a prey to the death among millions and millions of people. But luckily I was saved from being trapped by the death.

So, like me, everyone must have fought the war with the death. If not, don't worry. You will have your own share. Albeit we win sometimes over the death, but one day we are certainly going to defeat. For the  death is the greatest enemy for us. Though our armed forces battle for our country but no one can battle against the death. The only preparation we can do to fight against it  is by being a good human being. Always remember that death is either ahead of us or behind us. It may at anytime pull us with it or pull back with it. No matter whether we are being pulled back or front, we can't escape from it. No matter how we are or what we have or what post we hold, death is unbiased. So fear the death and always do good deeds. If all of us do good things then our society, nation and the world will automatically become a harmonious place to live in and we  won't need a  separate paradise.

                                      Thanks....

Right title to right person......

Actually we ought to hold at high veneration the word so called"Sir" because this title is not so easy to get. Do you remember that in the 19th century, there was only one person who had been offered with the title"Sir"by the British Empire??? That person was none other than our first Druk Gyelpo Gongsa Ugyen Wangchuck who had brought a historical changes in our country. He was one and only sir in our country. But with time its value has gradually started to dwindle and now in this 21st century the title "sir" has become universal prefix to the names of every individual. I feel that ordinary people like us don't deserve this title. However, in today's world owing to the lack of deference towards our traditional culture and custom, everything is taken for granted by the people. No one bothers to analyze the things. I personally feel that it is extremely vital to use appropriate title what they really deserve. We can't call fish to whatever creatures that live in the water because they have their own names. Likewise we can't call everyone sir because we also have our own entitlements.  But don't get me wrong here. I don't mean to say that we should call by their designations or occupations.  Everyone must be knowing the ways how we should be calling others in our societies. We should not misuse the titles as we like.

Using the title'sir' to everyone is akin to drinking water without knowing the source. I personally feel this way. But you all may have different perceptions on it. Do you all feel proud or comfortable when somebody calls you sir or madam, while you are not in actuality???? For me it sounds like insult and feel awkward at the same time. I don't like somebody calling me sir as I am not a right person to have this title. Actually it is respectable and meant to be used with highly accomplished personnel and prominent persons like our magnificent kings.

A person who teaches a student is called a teacher, in our language-Lopoen. This is the another title that we are misusing. Are all the people teachers??? Obviously no.. right??? But knowingly why do we call them lopoen?? This is the question to be raised within ourselves. Misusing this title would be a great humiliation to our diligent teachers who all work tirelessly for the betterment of our future citizens of our nation because it evidently shows that they are the least respected personnel in the societies. They would also feel demotivated. So it is awfully essential to use proper title to proper person. Don't ever get mixed up water with alcohol. Though both are colorless but the taste is different. So the same with us..Though we all are human beings but our fates and entitlements are different.
So, I will be glad to have opinions on it from you guys...

                               THANK YOU....

Realize the changes....

The world we are living today is not the world that our ancestors had lived in. The world in course of their times had been so tough for them. Their lives were indeed a living-hell for them all. Sometimes I wonder if they would have ever heard the word " Change?" Because there were no changes at all in their lives. People were isolated by the high mountain ranges and hills and the deep valleys and terrains. But today we can feel and see that our mother-land(Earth) had gone through so many alterations overcoming all sorts of challenges and obstacles. Today's world is a new world, well equipped with modern infrastructure. This is the world of 21st century where our world is on its continuous move towards modernization. Today our life has become easy and comfortable. People say" Life is not a bed of roses" but comparing to the living styles of our forefathers, I feel that our lives deserve to be called 'the bed of roses'.

There was a time where inter-personal and group communications were only possible and if there were some important messages to be passed from one place to another, it had to be routed either through the post-man or some responsible persons. And the sender had to keep awaiting for the reply which would take more than a week or two. There was also a time where we would  find those rejected letters and break up letters of young lovers sometimes inside the dustbin and sometimes on the way which now it can be found only in the inbox of their cells. People had to walk on foot while travelling to other places and they had to spend night on the way under the trees and caves. Long trips even caused muscle-cramp. But today's people travel by vehicles, planes, trains, ships and all and hold their nights in the comfortable hotels if they have to. Unlike our olden people, today we don't have to hold the night on the way which is actually very troublesome.

The smoke-full houses have now become illuminated by the electricity and we don't have to make fire which makes us dizzy by blowing it till the woods start flaming. Day and night have become the working hours for those hard-workers  because of light. Torch had been at high demand when there was no electricity but now we can see street lights and mobile light. Today's people have become more greedy than our forefathers. In the olden days, even the nearby villages were as if they had been divided into the seven continents because there was not at all interaction among them and they barely move out of their provinces. But now in this 21st century, even the seven continents have become just like a small global village. Now the scenario of the world has entirely changed from the past. We can see, chat and also talk with the people across the globe. Moreover today's people have become dependent on machines. Nobody like to work in the fields. Everyone dreams to work in the office with computers and this is one of the reasons why there are higher rates of unemployment not only in our country but also in other parts of the world. There are so many noticeable changes which I have not mentioned. So, sometimes I get lost in imagining the future world. I wonder how this world will be like, in times our upcoming generations.. But I am certain that our world will be totally different from how it is during our time. Such thoughts sometimes prompt me to wish if there was no death so that I will be able to see the changes till the world ends.

why beggars????

Beggars of all ages-young and old can be seen everywhere across the globe and Bhutan is not an exception. So do we sometimes bother to ask ourselves why there are beggars?? Are they to be blamed or not?? Are they responsible for their deeds?? These are the certain questions that we should ask ourselves and find answers to those questions. We can't simply blame them without knowing anything about them.None of us will know what are their problems and what prompted them to be the beggars. We should also feel guilty and shameful when we see some of our people begging because it shows how negligent and ignorant are we towards our poor sections of the societies. Even the government is responsible for that. The government should look after the well being of the marginalized societies and strive towards lifting up those poor sections of the country. We know nobody wants to be a beggar. They must not have even dreamed of becoming a beggar. They must have been obliged by some circumstances.

On contrary those beggars should be shameful more than us. They should think over the life they are living and ask themselves," Why we are only the beggars among the millions and millions of people?" Is that they do because they are left only with that choice or because they wanted to live an easy life by cadging from others without working by themselves?? It is hard to know their intentions. If they had been  obliged by certain circumstances I feel that they can overcome it if they are really dedicated to their lives. Let me share one true story from which we will find one reason for why do people beg.

Shila Ghosh is a 83 year old women who lives at Pali in West Bengal. Every day she commutes from her place to Kolkata to sell her fries. She travels afar by bus. The pedestrians out of respect and sympathy buy the fries from her. After the death of her only son due to cancer, she works tirelessly despite her old age. She earns around 400 rupees daily but it isn't adequate for her family of four. Circumstances could have obliged her to beg but her dignity and respect is everything for her, she says she would work till the end of  her life rather than begging on the streets. She has chosen to solve her problems on her own as it said.'God helps those who help themselves"

So, I wonder while such an old lady can work for her family, why can't others????? It explicitly indicates that beggars are bother-less about their lives and they are just as lazy as local pigs. If they have self-esteem like this old woman then they will also work for their own livings. So I think those beggars should put a big question mark whenever they beg for something. They are simply worse than the animals..Even the animals know how to earn their livings. So I feel that it is our responsibility to help them come out of beggary lives to the standard living styles. We need not give them money or clothes, Just try to alter their mindsets and make them realize their own mistakes. if we can take our own shares of responsibility towards reducing the number of beggars than I think one day our world will have very less beggars. Lets join our hands and work towards making a beggar-free world.

Our life is full of mixed memories..

When I was a small kid I would wake up early as soon as the dusk of night gives its way to dawn.  Putting on the torn-out pant and shirt, I would go out of my house and call out my friends at the top of my shrieking voice. We were in-deed neighbors but I would rather call them my playmates because we would play every game that we know almost from morning till evening. Calling us by our moms for the meals had somehow become their daily routine. But we would go reluctantly. Sometimes we would even grimace upon hearing them calling

our names and breaking in our games. Out of many games, we would prefer to play mask-dances where there would be some clashes among us for the post of champoen( head of the mask dancers) because all of us would like to play the role of champoen. Sometimes we would play hide- and- seek game, abcd game and sometimes archery and khuru. We even would not bother if we had eaten our food or not as we would be fully engrossed with our own business. Such had been my childhood life that it was unforgettable. I had wonderful childhood friends albeit we had exchanged some slaps and blows occasionally.

As I grew old enough I was admitted in the school called Shingkhar Primary School, the one and only school in our gewog that time. When I was in school I felt desolated as I was segregated from my friends who were left back at home herding cattle and some being baby-sisters. I would always wish if they would come and play as we had been playing back at home. But with time I could feel myself getting better as I came to know new friends. I would simply call them my primary classmates. If I share about my life with them it will even come to a solid booklet. So let me just conclude that they had been good and helpful to me. Seven years of my life had passed in primary school without even knowing how it had passed. I was graduated from that school and supposed to join the higher school.

In the year of 2007, I joined my higher school( Zhemgang Higher Secondary school) in class seven. I was astounded to see so many students which I thought myself that it is going to come around 1000 students but later I came to know the actual strengths of the school and it was more than 700 students which was still surprising for me because in our primary school we would hardly have 100 to 200 students. While we had shortage of students even in one class at primary school, there were many students of  same batch which led to section division.  I was in section A and we were 34 in total. At first we all were strangers and would not talk to each other. But as our intimacy grew day by day, I found them all so jolly and affable.

Some of us, we had made the same journey till 12 but sadly some of them could not make up with us..As it is said that gathering is always followed by departure, the time has come for us to depart from each other. Though it was distressing we were helpless because we had to accept the fate. So 2012 was officially a departing year for us. What remained back of our long time togetherness was a sweet memories of those moments. I really had a very great time with them all. I still do miss my classmates and friends.
